We all love great deals. When it's time for a new (or used) car, we want the best deal we can get. However, sometimes a good deal is a facade, and behind that facade is a whole lot of problems.
It's a fact, statistically, certain cars will require more (and more expensive) repairs than others. You must ALWAYS consider this when buying a car so that you aren't getting hit with huge surprise bills for repair every few months.
In fact, Yahoo just released an article about the 10 worst-reliable used cars on the US market today. Take a read!
Has your car ever had trouble getting into gear? Does your car have trouble going from 'Park' to 'Drive', or any other position?
Be warned, your brake light switch may be malfunctioning and it may cause an accident.
The brake light switch won't affect your brakes or stopping power, however the brake light switch is the only function that lets the rest of the car know that you are pressing your brakes. Your brake lights won't turn on and you will not be able to switch driving gear position.
Here is one way to check: When you are having trouble switching gears [ie. 'Park' to 'Drive' on an automatic transmission], have a friend check your brake lights. If the lights aren't turning on while you are holding the brakes, the brake light switch has malfunctioned.
When the rain falls, be prepared. Let's go over some safety tid-bits about wiper blades..What are the signs of bad wiper blades?
"When a blade is past its physical prime, it will show wear signs like cracking or discoloration. Another indicator that it's time to be changing your wipers is by the quality of the wipe. Streaking or unwiped areas are a dead giveaway. If the blades make noise or chattering sounds, then they need to be replaced."How OFTEN should I replace my wiper blades?"
If your wipers don't have a special indicator, the National Highway Transportation Board
recommends that drivers change their windshield wipers, at minimum, every year (every six months is ideal). However, the average vehicle owner replaces his/her wipers only once every 2.5 years
."'Most people wait until they are in a downpour and nearly drive off the road before they are convinced it's time to change the blades,' says Jenifer Maddox, product manager for PEAK Automotive Products."Come drop by Ace Auto Tech today and we will install your new wiper blades for you in minutes!
Tip of the day:
Car companies (ie: Toyota, Ford, etc.) don't make most of their own parts. They have other manufacturing companies produce parts for them and then STAMP the car company logo onto it. This stamp increases the price.Story of the day:
One of our customers recently went in for a warranty service to their Infiniti dealer.
Upon completing the service, was quoted for these additional jobs:
- Drive belt cracked: $332
- Left-side valve cover leaking: $720
- Hood shocks: $402
He brought in his Infiniti back to our shop to go over the recommended jobs.
The dealership technician was right, these areas did need work.
Here are our prices; all parts were OE/Manufactured by the same OE company.
- Drive belt: $90
- BOTH sides, valve cover gaskets: $220
- Hood shocks: $80
Prices will vary by year, make, model, and are subject to change.
This particular car saved.... alot.
Mind you, most of our work comes with a 12-month/12,000 mile limited warranty.
So you've got a problem with your car and maybe your check engine light is on. We care about our customers and saving you money. For instance, we have access to up-to-date factory recalls. This means that if you bring your car in for a repair and we see that there is a factory recall on it, we will direct you to the dealership. I'll even print out the recall information and highlight where your car meets the recall requirements. BOOM.
Here's a little car-411 to keep you on the road this NEW YEAR.
Did you know...
- cleaning your wiper blades with a soaped sponge or cloth extends it's life?
- that cabin filters catch pollen, dust, and other airborne materials and replacing your cabin air filter* can help you with your allergies when you're in your car?
- a sudden increase or decrease in temperature (ie: cold weather) may cause your tire pressure light to turn on?
- flat tires, caused by nails and other objects, can be plugged for just $10**?
- if you check into Yelp! you can receive a 10% discount on your oil change?
- we sell quality wiper blades, usually $10***, that we will install for free?
- once you become a customer, we will fill your tires to match the manufacturer's specs for free?
- we offer automotive battery tests using Interstate Batteries' equipment for free?
*some cars do not have cabin air filters.
**Repairing one hole costs $10, each additional repair costs an additional $10. Nails, screws, and any other foreign object(s) that have punctured the tire must be located along the steel belt(s) and away from the side-walls. Punctures must be in the repairable shape of holes and not slits. "Run-flat" tires cannot be repaired and must be replaced. No tire repairs are guaranteed, but we are reasonable. We can always take another look.
***Most of our wiper blades are manufactured by Anco(r); wiper blades up to 20" are $10 each installed, larger or specialty wiper blades cost extra.
Though we don't see that many Bentley's around the shop, there are plenty of other beautiful cars!
