Has your car ever had trouble getting into gear? Does your car have trouble going from 'Park' to 'Drive', or any other position?

Be warned, your brake light switch may be malfunctioning and it may cause an accident.

The brake light switch won't affect your brakes or stopping power, however the brake light switch is the only function that lets the rest of the car know that you are pressing your brakes. Your brake lights won't turn on and you will not be able to switch driving gear position.

Here is one way to check: When you are having trouble switching gears [ie. 'Park' to 'Drive' on an automatic transmission], have a friend check your brake lights. If the lights aren't turning on while you are holding the brakes, the brake light switch has malfunctioned.

Wiper blade safety

04/04/2014

When the rain falls, be prepared. Let's go over some safety tid-bits about wiper blades..

What are the signs of bad wiper blades?
"When a blade is past its physical prime, it will show wear signs like cracking or discoloration. Another indicator that it's time to be changing your wipers is by the quality of the wipe. Streaking or unwiped areas are a dead giveaway. If the blades make noise or chattering sounds, then they need to be replaced."

How OFTEN should I replace my wiper blades?
"If your wipers don't have a special indicator, the National Highway Transportation Board recommends that drivers change their windshield wipers, at minimum, every year (every six months is ideal). However, the average vehicle owner replaces his/her wipers only once every 2.5 years.

"'Most people wait until they are in a downpour and nearly drive off the road before they are convinced it's time to change the blades,' says Jenifer Maddox, product manager for PEAK Automotive Products."
